My experience here wasn't a good one and I don't think I will ever go back. First, the tables were sticky - not dirty, just sticky. I think it's the paint or something because it remained sticky even after we asked the server to wipe it off again. (We heard another table ask the same thing, so I sneaked & touched the clean, set table next to us and it was also sticky.) Also, the food was not good. We didn't like the soup at all. It was so salty we couldn't eat it. The pineapple fried rice was okay, but I made pineapple fried rice at home exactly once in my life and it tasted the same - I expected theirs to be better. My dining companion ordered the Pad Thai and it was gross looking and gross tasting. We've both eaten and enjoyed Pad Thai at other restaurants, and this was not what we expected. She actually said when we left, "I need to get something to drink to get that bad taste out of my mouth." Yikes! They did get a few things right: Rak Thai has really cool decor, friendly service, and low prices. We liked the salad dressings - although the "salads" were just (fresh, crisp) lettuce - and we enjoyed the flavor and crunch of the crab rangoon (although it was served on a bed of wilted/browning shredded lettuce).

Awsome food! I have lived in japan and thailand when I was enlisted and the food here is spot on. My wife and I have come for lunch on multiple occasions and will keep coming back. I will say, however, for other peoples reviews that Thai food is NOT Chinese food its different so they may be expecting the cliche chinese restaurant food. And they keep going on when they complain come on guys!

Great Thai food, nice people! Had the drunken noodles, panang curry, and fresh rolls. All were really good!

    * Insanely amazing food * One of the best places in Grand Rapids * Understaffed and overworked * House salad with peanut/lemon dressing! Ugly: * Styrofoam food containers * Off-putting music

I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants and this one was one of the worst as far as food goes. The orange chicken was dry and hard, a plastic fork did not work. The taste was ok until I bit into it, hard, dry and chewy. My wife got Pad Thai and said, "It was just a bunch of bland noodles." Will not go back!!!

I really want to be nice to this restaurant but doing so would be misleading and wouldn't help management improve. The restaurant itself is comfortable and casual. The walls brightly painted. There is one larger table in a separate are from the main restaurant so if you are coming with a group of 6 - 8 people this would work well. I went for lunch on a weekday when there was only one other table occupied. I had to open the door to the kitchen to see if I could find someone to seat us. Service was slow and, I thought, a bit sloppy. The table, for example, had not been cleared of crumbs from the previous patrons. We used napkins to dry water that was left behind after the table was wiped down. My companions liked the food but I've had much better Thai food elsewhere. I thought the rice was dry, the peanut dressing on the salad was extremely thick and oddly flavored, and the Massaman curry had ingredients such as pineapples and water chestnuts (and lacked other spices) so that the recipe is not traditionally Thai. The food is Americanized Thai food, much like chicken chow mein is Americanized Chinese food. Many people will like this - but then I think many people would also like to eat Thai food as it is traditionally prepared.

Dropped by for a carry-out of pad thai for lunch. Nice spring roll came with it and the pad thai was very good. Not the best I ever had, but very good. They ask how hot you like it. The interior was nice and clean--minimalist. service was quick and friendly.

I have been a regular customer of this establishment since it has opened...until now. My daughter wanted her birthday here as the food is usually good...not. Our waitstaff was new and very forgetful and most of our food was awful. The lemon grass soup was very salty and our salads had wilty lettuce. The entree my daughter wanted...was out and not available so she had to settle for something else which she got the fried rice in the pinapple and the shrimp was raw. Two other guests had shrimp in their dishes and it was off and tasted very fishy. I don't know what is going on here but I was very upset and don't think I will ever eat here again. Where is the regular chef? Did they expand and forget to serve good food? I think so.

First, let me say, my husband and I enjoyed Rak Thai several times this summer. We really liked their Masaman curry. However, the last few times we ordered take-out there, the service was so bad that we aren't coming back. One time my husband waited nearly 45 min. after the time they said our food would be done and was never even offered an apology. But what really clinched it was the last time we ordered take-out. I found a stone (or something hard and pea-sized) in my spring roll and our Pad Thai tasted like dog food. We have ordered Pad Thai there before and enjoyed it, but this time was different. When we called to complain, they were very unhelpful, didn't apologize or offer any refund. We were very disappointed and are now looking for a new Thai restaurant.

This is the best Thai restaurant in Grand Rapids! The presentation of the food if wonderful, and it tastes great. Bubble Tea is a must when you are there. The service staff could be a little more polished but they make up for it with friendly service. Lunch portions are totally on point for the price that they charge. Rak Thai is a must try, you will be hooked.

After daily driving by on my way to work, we finally decided to head to the Rak Thai Bistro for dinner. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday evening, so we were seated quickly and service was very attentive and helpful. We tried the bubble tea, spring rolls, pork pad thai, and tofu pad see yu. The dinner entrees come with lemongrass soup and salad, which is a nice bonus. The food was ok, but I don't think we will be going out of our way to eat here, as we have eaten much better Thai elsewhere.

Lemongrass soup was heavenly and the pad thai was just amazing with the peanut sauce, i usually do not prefer to eat tofu, but this i could stand. The place has a really "earthy" feel to it and i like it! With light greens and bamboo! This place will not disappoint you! 100% recommend!

It saddens me to write this review after eating here numerous times. I'm not sure what has happened at Rak Thai, but it isn't the restaurant that it once was. I had some take out the other day and it was so unsatisfying. The Savory Thai Basil with chicken was arrantly lackluster. I actually wrote notes to myself after finishing it because it was so notably meh. The sauce tasted too much of vinegar and was yet also too sweet. The portion was profoundly meager (a new phenomenon) and simultaneously light on the chicken. That said, it was heavy on the onions. The entire dish consisted of only chicken, onions, green peppers and a couple of hot red chilies. Notably, I also bit into the stem of something (not sure what). It was quite woody and completely unappreciated. Sorry, Rak Thai, there are too many Thai spots in Grand Rapids now for this to be occurring. Asking a premium price for a subpar product and now skimping on the portions? For shame.

I'm done going here. They are close to work and it is convenient. It seems like a nice place and they do some magic to make me think it is better than it is, but I see the light now. There is always something wrong with my food and before I blamed it on myself. Today my wife and I went in for lunch. The soup they gave us tasted like a salt lick. We both LOVE spicy food. In most Oriental places we order the spiciest they have and most times it is pretty mild in our book. Today we got the mid-range 3 of 5 and it was just nuclear. I could not even enjoy it. What I could taste of the chicken over the hot was a bland under seasoned protein. I paid for it and ate it, but was not enjoying it. The decor is also very unkempt. It looks like they put a lot of care in to it when it was opened, but have done nothing since. The lid on the toilet tank is broken, not just cracked, but a giant piece is missing. The soupbowls have chips in them, the chopsticks are chewed up on the ends from the years of patron use (eww), there are black crud lines in the floor between the floor boards, there are scuffs on all the walls and doors, and the list goes on and on. The food looks good and I really want it to be better than it is, but I'm done fooling myself that it is good food.

The atmosphere and decorations were very nice however that didn't translate to the food. We ordered pad thai and lemongrass soup/ tom yum soup and they didn't taste authentic at all. Thai Fusion is the place to go if you crave for Thai food!

Good food, great flavor. Fluorescent lighting and neon green walls leave the atmosphere to suffer. Good at accommodating children and groups. They offer all the classic Thai dishes and make all things tofu very well! The tofu volcano appetizer is one of my favorite tofu dishes of all time.

Great food for the price! The salad was very delicious. I ordered both dressings to mix together and I always order it that way from now on!

I ordered take out "spring rolls" and was pierced in the mouth by a large piece of wood which was inside of the roll. It was a large splinter of wood. I've eaten authentic thai food all over the country and this was not it. Before biting into my wood roll, I tried the Pad Se Eew I had ordered, it was made with cheap, thin egg noodles that all stuck together and the flavor was awful. This was not cooked in a wok. It was disappointing and scary that I could have ingested something dangerous.

This was a most pleasant experience! The staff is friendly and knowledgable! If you want spicy- do not be afraid to ask. Watch for coupons in Cadence and ValPak!

I arrived for lunch around 11:45. I was promptly seated, one other table was already there. I left at 11:55. The seats were hard and uncomfortable, and during the time I waited neither I or the other table were even served water let alone asked for an order. The food may be good here, but they were definitely not on their "A" game for service. Hopefully this was just an off day for them.

Extremely poor service. In for lunch with a co-worker and it took 15-minutes just to take our order. Once we ordered it was another 15-minutes. They screwed up my buddy's order so another 15-minutes to fix that. We finally ate in rush so we wouldn't get back to work too late. Total 1-hour. Granted, they were full, but it was not crazy busy in there. There was only one girl greeting, seating, taking orders, working the register, etc. Heck, she did disappear for a while so maybe she was cooking our meals too. The soup was saltier than a sweaty guy eating anchovies and my pad Thai was just ok. Shameful, disappointing and bad times. I'll get Thai somewhere else.

After being there a few times now. I have decided that the spice level for me can actually be more. The server was right and it is just something you need to get used to before you move up. Level 5, is still to hot for anyone, or at least in my opinion. Lunches are awesome because there is a great deal to be had!

Stopped in for lunch and was surprised what I found: Also I do usually like contemporary design I found this location rather "cold" with not only lack of warmth and decor but also not very clean and rather run down. The fact having a swinging door to the kitchen next to the dining tables and tables next to the bathrooms seem rather odd and very unpleasant. Whilst the overall menue seemed to be impressive given the low lunch entree price of $ 8.00 (Lemongrass soup, roll and dish) the food was very basic and not fresh at all. The curry with zucchini and eggplants did consist of "old" and chewy eggplants, the chicken was hard - maybe microwaved too many times? My daughter's orange chicken had too much old tasting and hard breaking, the spring rolls came with the "old" oil taste. Oh, and when asked for spices /Thai Sauce or Soy sauce I was told they do not usually offer soy sauce since that would not be Thai Restaurant style.? She handed us a couple of soy sauce take-out packets though... Also I am a fan of Thai - clearly never again at this location

The restaurant is very well decorated and inviting. Everything, including the plates and tea cups, makes Rak Thai a new, hip place to enjoy your lunch or dinner. The Lemon Grass soup and Spring Rolls were excellent. The Pad Thai w/ Chicken was very good. I thought the service was good and would come back again. Overall, Rak Thai is a nice, quiet place to go and enjoy some Thai food. The restaurant is definitely less traditional Thai, and more a Thai Fusion restaurant.

I finally got in for dinner the other night! First off, I think their spring rolls and crab rangoons have changed since I was there last. The spring rolls were spicier (yay!) and the crab rangoons were creamier (neutral). Another change, this one definitely good...the soup has gotten WAY better. I could hardly sip it before because of how peppery it was; now it's light and refreshing (and the tofu is done excellently). I'd never had their salad....and the peanut sauce was awesome. Just a hint of coconut. So wonderful. A friend got their Thai Basil, which I hadn't had here before, and it was very well made. I got a dinner special - the Duck Duck Goose. YUM. The curry was creamy and spicy without being overpowering. The duck was excellently cooked (a little on the tough end of things) and the crispy skin was wonderful. But be sure to ask for a knife unless you want to eat it all of it with your hands. The service was great, as always. We were in on a Friday evening (6:45p) and there was only one table open. Still, our waiter came over to our table at the right times and was very helpful. I know my friend was surprised at how cheap the crab rangoons and spring rolls were, but although I want to try a couple of the house specials, I still think the lunch specials have more bang for your buck.

Lunch at this little spot is great. For less than $10, you get soup, 1 side, and a main with a "protein". The "hot" 4 stars is nice and spicy, the pad thai is decent, but the spice level took some of the sweetness out (which is good), and the crab rangoon (crab cheese) is a guilty fried treat. The interior is a bright lime green with bamboo seating, and it fills up for lunch. It's not as good as The Thai House on 28th (not by a long shot), but it is good enough for lunch and takeout.

I had dinner last week at Rak Thai and it was delish. The lemongrass soup was good, the salad with peanut dressing was skimpy, but was a dinner salad. I imagine a main dish salad would be a bit more substantial. I can't remember the name of what I ordered, but it was a stir fry with vegetables and cashews. For my protein I chose tofu. I don't always like tofu, but theirs was quite good. I chose "3" as a hotness level, which was pretty hot. I love hot food, but I think a 4 might have been too much for me. 3 left my lips burning. I could only eat half and had the rest the next day. Oddly, it wasn't as spicy - barely a lip tingle. My tablemates had the pineapple fried rice, which looked fabulous (and she raved about it), and curry, which was also highly praised. The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere nice.

We've been here a couple times now and have enjoyed it each time. The quality of the food is better than other asian places in town, which makes it our first stop for something asian.

My family and I love Rak Thai! I've had something different each time I went, but I have yet to be disappointed. Their noodle dishes are portioned quite large. I would recommend dining in instead of takeout because they serve soup and salad with the entrees in the restaurant, but not with takeout. Their lemongrass tofu soup is extremely simple, but the flavor is on point. It's the perfect soup if you're trying to cure a cold. Also, I love the simplicity of the decor. It's modern without being unfriendly.

I went here on two occasions and was not that impressed with the food. On one occasion, one of the people we were with had a hair in their food and we still ended up getting charged for that part of the meal. The food is somewhat bland and too sweet. Also, the tables are always sticky.

Don't try to get catering. They were really cool and nice at first, but when it came time to get things settled they decided to disappear on me. I was ready to fork over $1600. That's just bad business.

Some of the BEST Thai food I have ever had! You get a lot of food for lunch! Their Lemon Grass soup is amazing! They now have Papaya Salad-I tried it once, needs to improve on the taste, but it will be perfected in no time!

The first I heard of this establishment was restaurant.com . I purchased a $25 gift certificate, redeemable on a $45 purchase. My boyfriend and I had dinner here on a quiet monday night. We were only one of three tables, but people were constantly piling in and out for takeout. We started with the spring rolls and crab cheese. These items had great flavor- the sweet and sour is great because it's light- almost like a vinaigrette. I was also seriously appreciative of the fact that the fried items were light and crispy, not greasy in the slightest- the result of flash-fry I'd assume. The lemongrass soup had great flavor, my boyfriend who doesn't care for tofu even enjoyed it. The side salad was small, but I was happy for that, because I still had room for my entree. I had the masaman curry with chicken, and I can't even describe how bright and clean the flavors were. I ate a the third level of spice, as did my boyfriend. I'm very much looking forward to eating the leftovers for dinner tonight. He had the curried fried rice with pork, and really enjoyed that as well. The kicker was that after ALL of that food, we still were far away from our $45 minimum in order to use our restaurant.com , but you won't hear me complaining. The prices are more than fair for the portions that you receive, and I look forward to bringing back a few more guests for another delicious meal, and being able to use our gift certificate. My only complaint is that it isn't closer to our house- I'm voting for a second store on 28th street.

I think I just expected more from the restaurant. I stopped by for a quick lunch. I ordered PadThai. Lemon grass soup which is part of their lunch special is okay. However, padthai was too sweet even though I ordered spicy. I mean it's spicy but the sweetness is still there. Pros: nice decor, friendly staff, free wifi, reasonable price Cons: food taste (I guess I have to try something else beside padthai)

Good food and prices but wish the tables seemed cleaner. I know they clean them but they have a weird finish that causes them to be sticky. Love the summer rolls and the pad prik
